Why does my skin colour seem to be an issue at work?

by John
(UK)

I have been working at the same place for over three years now and I am the darkest skinned person in the office. Inittially I didnt really mind as such but now it is becoming obvious that I am treated unfairly at times.

I feel as though I have great ideas and a lot to offer but when it comes to promotions or anything like that I get overlooked.

I am 28, Black and I am really ambitious but I wonder if I can ever get ahead in the predomonantly 'White' office?

This is what a child in Africa wrote

COLOURED

When I born, I Black,
When I grow up, I Black,
When I go in Sun, I Black,
When I scared, I Black,
When I sick, I Black,
And when I die, I still black,

And you White fella,

When you born, you Pink,
When you grow up, you White,
When you go in Sun, you Red,
When you cold, you Blue,
When you scared, you Yellow,
When you sick, you Green,
And when you die, you Gray,
And you calling me Colored ?
I am a Nigerian so take this from one sister to a brother. And if you want to screw with them a little photocopy the poem and paste it on your wall where you know that it will be seen
